ID cards for office security
May 20th, 2009 by life4hireI’m not sure how each office handles their security for their office but at my workplace, we used an ID card to access the office. We use the ID card for other purposes like encrypting our emails and accessing the local network remotely. Suffice to say, our ID card is our like at the office. These ID cards were printed but it’s not like the normal printer, instead it needs to use a special card printers since we have chips embedded on the smart ID cards to store our personal information.

Companies specializes in ID card printers usually charged a lot of bucks for these type of cards. This is because usually the ID card will be only used by big companies. My ID card size is like a standard membership card or credit cards, so it’s easy to carry everywhere. This is some kind of convenience because I can put it in my wallet or wear it using a card holder attached to my trousers but once you lost it, it will take some time to get a new one. This is because there are a lot of procedures to follow because I can get the new card.
If I need a replacement on my card, I have to report it first, file a security compliance form and then they will issue a new card. It took usually 3 weeks since the ID card printing company is located in France. I once lost my card and believe me, that’s not something you want to experience in the first 3 months on job. It was a good experience for me though so that I will be more careful in handling the card. ![]()
